Kanto Lantern festival in Akita. 秋田、竿灯祭り。

There is another famous festival in North east Japan.
It's Kanto lantern festival in Akita.

Marching for the festival.

The festival started.

Drams.

Intervention.

Up and up.

Climax.

Ending.

Sansa dancing in Morioka.

Next day, I got on a Rickshawa in Kakunodate.

The rickshaw puller was a woman.

Looked around some Samurai's houses.

  1. We have an international festival in my city every year, Japan was the "honored country" back in 2015 so they had a big space. They had a drum just like that one set up. Sadly no beautiful lanterns like those though the festival is already long since over by sunset.

  6. I love the Japanese big drums. I have watched the famous Drum Tao performance. This festival in Akita looks different from other festivals. I am shocked to hear that the rickshaw puller was a woman. She must be muscular and strong!!! Ha ha ha.
